What is the best time to get Laser Hair Removal during the hair growth cycle?

Almost everyone on this great planet that we inhabit has hair somewhere on their body. Hair is meant to protect us from the elements outside, and also to give us some semblance of warmth in harsh, freezing conditions. What most people don’t know is that the hairs that cover our bodies don’t just pop up out of nowhere, but go through three separate phases. If you are considering laser hair removal in Atlanta from one of our Blue Divine Aestheticians, it is important for you to know these phases as they apply to the best time to have your hair removal treatments completed.

Anagen – This phase is often considered the active phase of hair, and is the best phase in which to have a laser hair removal treatment performed at Blue Divine. During this phase, the cells in the root of the hair quickly divide which produces a new hair that pushes the old, non-growing hair up the follicle, where it will eventually fall out.

Hair tends to grow approximately one centimeter for every 28 days that pass. While hair on the facial hair, arm hair, eyebrow hair and hair in other areas moves to the latter phases rather quickly, hair on the scalp can last in this phase of growth for up to six years.

Catagen – The catagen phase typically lasts approximately two to three weeks, during which time hair growth becomes halted and the sheath that covers the outer root of a hair shrinks and applies itself to a new hair’s root. The hair that is left over and no longer growing is considered to be called a club hair by many in the laser hair removal industry.

Telogen – During the telogen phase, hair is usually resting. At any one time on a person’s body 6% to 8% of hairs are in this phase. The telogen phase lasts for nearly 100 days for hairs on the scalp, and even longer for hairs on the arms, legs and eyelashes. In the telogen phase, a hair follicle is at complete rest and the club hair is formed. You will know if a hair is in this phase by pulling it out and examining the root. If you see a hard white material at the end, you know you are in the telogen phase.

As mentioned earlier, the best time to visit Blue Divine is during the active phase of hair growth, or the anagen phase. Visit Blue Divine, Inc. today and speak with one of our certified Aestheticians to find out which hair phase you are in, and the best time to start laser hair removal treatments.
